Short Term Missions | Long Term Change
Hope for Hispaniola trips are designed for families – for people of all ages and skillsets to come and do their part to further God’s kingdom. The team's primary purpose is to aid and work with the local churches to meet whatever needs they have in their community. During the course of one week, trip members participate in a variety of ministries, including construction, medical clinics, vacation bible school, and evangelism. The day begins with a time of worship and devotion, then the team disperses for different projects. In the evenings, members attend a different church each night and worship alongside Dominican brothers and sisters in Christ.

The team will depart from Pittsburgh International Airport for the Dominican Republic. Based at the Hope for Hispaniola Mission Center in Higuey, the team will visit various Haitain villages, including La Higuera, San Pedro, and more.
We at Hope for Hispaniola (HFH) want to make sure you have a great experience on your short term mission trip. We also want you to have a cultural experience on how Dominicans eat and live. We know that you have made a great sacrifice to come and serve with HFH. Most trips are 7 days including travel days. These days will start off with morning devotions led by leaders from the group. The subject of the devotional should be decided by the group and people sharing should already be picked before arriving. After devotions we will have a Dominican breakfast consisting of fried eggs, hard boiled eggs, or scrambled eggs or a combination of two types. There will either be Dominican salami or bacon depending on availability. Mashed potatoes will also be served. Boxed cereal and milk will be available. There will be bread with peanut butter and jelly, and seasonal fruits will be provided depending on availability. Natural fruit juices, coffee, or water to drink. Then we will get our day started with either working at the HFH property or going out to a predetermined location to do ministries. We will have lunch on site consisting of two sandwiches with meat and cheese, tomato (on the side). There will be ketchup and mayonnaise available. We will also have chips and prepackaged cookies. There will be water and pop/soda to drink. Then we will return to ministry and then return to HFH. There will be time to shower and then dinner will be served. The classic Dominican meal is called “la bandera” which means flag. It consists of white rice, red beans, stewed chicken, and salad. Dinner will be classic Dominican food. Each day will have different rice, most days will have Dominican style beans, meats will be chicken, beef, or pork. Some days will have French fries with the dinner instead of rice and beans. A green salad will be served with every meal with a Dominican salad dressing or other dressing. Water, pop/soda will be available. Coffee is always available.
Then we will go to our scheduled event for the evening and then return to HFH to sleep or prepare for the next days.
Filtered water is always provided. Please don’t forget your water bottle.
If you have any food allergies please let us know ahead of time.
It is always a good idea to bring protein bars, beef jerky, peanut butter, nuts, or something if you have many restrictions as availability to many things are hard here.
All projects will be set ahead of time by HFH so materials can be there upon arrival.
Location of ministry will be determined by HFH before arrival so that the ministry will be well prepared.
All things above are subject to change depending on circumstances that are out of our control and weather. We strive to make your experience with HFH special and we want you to be able to serve the Dominican’s with love
